Care & Provenance of Your Opal

Care & Provenance of Your Opal

Thank you for choosing a Mandala Opals piece.

Every opal we offer is sourced from Lightning Ridge, NSW, and personally handled from ground to finished stone. Whether set in jewellery or purchased as a loose stone, your opal is a natural gem formed over millions of years and deserves thoughtful care.

Provenance

Mandala Opals works directly with Lightning Ridge opal.

  • All opal is personally mined or sourced directly from our mining operations

  • Stones are cut and polished in-house

  • Jewellery is designed and handcrafted using sterling silver and quality materials

  • Each piece is one-of-a-kind and fully traceable

No two opals are ever the same β€” variations in colour, pattern, and character are part of what makes your opal unique.

Caring for Your Opal

With proper care, opals will retain their natural beauty indefinitely.

Cleaning

  • Clean using water with a drop of mild detergent

  • Rinse in clean water and dry with a soft cloth

  • Water will not harm solid opal

  • Grime from wear can be gently wiped away with a damp cloth

Important

  • Do not place opal in ultrasonic cleaners

  • Avoid prolonged water exposure for opal doublets

  • Do not expose opal to harsh chemicals or extreme heat

Storage

If storing opal in a safe or dry environment, place a glass of water inside to maintain humidity and prevent dehydration.

Long-Term Care

After many years of wear, professional re-polishing can restore an opal that has become dull or lightly scratched.
